Description

The Orbits of Praise | 2008 CE / 1429 AH

Scriptorial palette:

“All praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds.”

Inspired by Surah 1 –  Al-Fātiḥah (The Opening), verse 2 of the Holy Qur’ān

“He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity save Him: call, then, unto Him [alone], sincere in your faith in Him. All praise is due to God, the Sustainer of all the worlds.”

Inspired by Surah 40 –  Ghāfir (Forgiving), verse 65 of the Holy Qur’ān

The general scheme of this composition was inspired by the second verse of the opening chapter of the Holy Qur’ān “All praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds.” Meanwhile the detailed fabric of this work has come as a result of a multi-interlocking scriptorial structure which enumerates most of the Qur’anic verses communicating the subject of praise, its virtues and secrets. All the elements of the composition endeavour to compliment each other in their highest visual capacity, to originate an escalation of orbital zones which, amongst themselves, encompass different levels and directions in a contrasting manner, between proceeding and succeeding elements.
The effusion of all the orbital zones from one centre underlines the most important metaphorical content in this work, i.e. the sincerity in praising God cannot be fulfiled save by believing in His Oneness and the elimination of anthropomorphic elements from our perception of God. It is fitting therefore, that the content of the central dot of this work is “He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity save Him: call, then, unto Him [alone], sincere in your faith in Him. All praise is due to God, the Sustainer of all the worlds.”
